The rankings system harnesses AI and data mining techniques to assess research programs at academic institutions.
The Daniel J. Epstein Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering has been ranked in the national top 10 in the 2022 ScholarGPS institutional rankings.
In the platform’s academic ranking of industrial engineering and operations research programs across the United States, the University of Southern California is ranked 9th for 2022.
The ScholarGPS platform harnesses artificial intelligence and data mining technologies to rank academic institutions and programs based on faculty members’ quality and quantity of research output. Institutional rankings take into account the active scholars in each institution who are highly productive in terms of their number of publications and have generated outstanding work of meaningful impact, indicated by citations.
The latest news comes after the department recently commemorated the 20th anniversary of the $25 million in cumulative gifts from alumnus Daniel J. Epstein that have transformed industrial and systems engineering research, innovation, and learning at USC.
Epstein’s ongoing support is now accelerating the recruitment of expert faculty with a focus on interdisciplinary areas such as computational systems, machine learning and artificial intelligence in order to address society’s most critical challenges. The latest gift will also fast-track the modernization of facilities at the University Park Campus, housing the Epstein Department in one collaborative space at the Salvatori Center.
