Professor Sheldon Ross, the Daniel J. Epstein Chair and Professor in Industrial and Systems Engineering, co-authored the runner-up for Operations Research Letters’ 2025 Best Paper Prize. “Improved Bounds on the Probability of a Union and on the Number of Events that Occur” was written with Ilan Adler and Richard M. Karp of the University of California, Berkeley.
The paper offers better ways to estimate how likely it is that one or more events will occur when only partial information is available. Operations Research Letters is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes concise research in operations research and analytics.
