IISE Student Chapter Regional Conference
The Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers at the University of Southern California (USC) is hosting the 2020 IISE Western Regional Conference February 28 – March 1, 2020.
This conference is a unique opportunity for students and professionals in the field of Industrial Engineering to network, explore industry trends, and compete for a chance to present their work at the IISE Annual Conference and Expo 2020 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The University of Southern California, located in the heart of Los Angeles, is one of the world’s leading private research universities. Los Angeles is a global center for the arts, technology and international business. The greater Los Angeles area is the second-largest urban region in the United States containing about 13 million people. The USC campus is about 1 mile from Korea town, 2 miles to Little Tokyo and Chinatown, and a quick subway ride to Santa Monica beach. The weather in Los Angeles is mild all year and in February, the average low is 55°F and the average high is 70°F. The campus is conveniently located next to many forms of public transportation making it very easy to visit.
The conference will be held on the main campus and includes the technical paper competition, keynote speakers, expert panels, plant tours, and other activities.

2020 IISE Western Regional Conference Undergraduate Student Technical Paper Competition

The purpose of the competition is to encourage undergraduate students to write and present outstanding technical papers. The principal author must make an oral presentation at the Conference. The first place winner will represent the region competing in the Undergraduate Technical Paper Competition Global Finals at the IISE Annual Conference & Expo, May 30-June 2, 2020 in New Orleans, LA
The criteria of selection includes
- Depth, significance and originality of subject matter
- Excellence of written presentation
- Excellence of oral presentation
The judging is based on 75 percent the written paper and 25 percent oral presentation.
Rules
- Students must be an undergraduate student when the nominated paper is
- Paper can be projects done for a company as part of a course, internship, or other They may be undergraduate research projects done at the home institution.
- Multi-authored papers are permitted, provided the names of all authors are on the
- A faculty member may serve as an advisor on a project, but the work should primarily be done by the
- A faculty member cannot be a co-author of the
- Only IISE members are eligible to
- Each participating university, including the host institution, may submit up to two papers as

- Prizes are $300, $150, and $50 for the First, Second, and Third place winners
