Dr. Keeney received his B.S. degree in Engineering from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1966. He received his M.S. and E.E. degrees in Electrical Engineering from MIT and his Ph.D. in Operations Research from MIT in 1969.


Dr. Keeney has been on the faculty of Civil Engineering and Management at MIT, worked as a research scholar at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis near Vienna, Austria, and built the Decision and Risk Group at a major consulting firm, before joining USC in 1983. He is a professor in the USC Marshall School of Business and a researcher in the Center for Telecommunications Management in addition to his position in Industrial and Systems Engineering. Dr. Keeney is the co-author with Howard Raiffa of Decisions with Multiple Objectives, the author of Value-Focused Thinking, and the co-author with John Hammond and Howard Raiffa of Smart Choices: A Practical Guide to Making Better Decisions. He is the author of over 100 articles in professional journals. Dr. Keeney is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
